Instead of Black Friday, I’m going to Block Friday

I have to admit I’ve never been much of a Black Friday shopper. Standing in lines, getting up early. . . it’s just never appealed to me. But, neither have I been very mindful of how I spend this day. Perhaps this is due in part to the fact that I’ve often been on call over the Thanksgiving weekend.

This year that’s going to change. I have Friday off. Instead of heading out to the malls, I’m going to start a new tradition. I’m going to Block Friday.

A few days ago I came across #blockfriday in my Twitter feed. The idea, a brainchild of Holstee, is to take back Black Friday. To take the day to “indulge in the people around us” instead of buying more stuff. They are asking, “What are you Blocking Friday for this holiday season?”

I’m going to #blockfriday for my son. The work-life balance has been a little off lately and I’m aching for more time with him. So Friday, I’m going to leave work at work, turn off the computer and phone, let the blog rest, and spend time with him. Maybe we’ll go to the park, we’ll likely read some books, and we’ll definitely spend some time playing trains (his current fave). I can’t wait.

Will you #blockfriday?
