About Me

I am a full time pediatrician and mom. I live in the bay area of California with my husband and our three-year-old son.

I was born and raised in Wisconsin. I graduated from the University of Wisconsin School of Medicine and Public Health. I then moved to California and completed pediatric residency and chief residency at the Children’s Hospital and Research Center in Oakland, CA. I practice in a diverse county clinic in San Jose, California, where I also spend time teaching medical students and pediatric residents. I have the honor of partnering with families every day in order to improve their children’s health and well being. And, I get to come home to a little boy who amazes me to no end.

About The Blog

Since I became a mother, many people have asked, does being a parent change you as a pediatrician? The answer? A resounding yes!  And, the reverse is also true. Being a pediatrician changes me as a mother. And, not always in the ways you might expect. I find myself searching for the balance between the textbooks I’ve read and the reality that families are living.  I find myself seeing anew, with a mother’s heart, the inadequacies and inequities in policies and systems affecting child health.  I am a mother to a wonderful son. I am a board certified pediatrician. At My Two Hats I take hot topics in child health- everything from policy to parenting- and look at them from each side.

Please let me know what you think of My Two Hats!  I am always open to comments, suggestions,  and ideas for post topics.  Contact me at mytwohats@gmail.com.

** A shout out to my friend Ellen whose cute little homemade hats are on the header photo.  You can find them here.
